DJI Mini 4 Pro – An Overview

The DJI Mini 4 Pro is the successor to the much-lauded DJI Mini Pro 3. With the DJI Mini Pro 3 being as awesome as it is, DJI has had to work extra hard with the DJI Mini 4 Pro to make it worth the upgrade and they’ve succeeded with improvements in flight performance, camera quality, and features like Intelligent Flight Modes. For a new drone pilot, the Mini 4 Pro is the way to go.

As a new drone pilot, price would be one of the first considerations when it comes to buying your first drone. Priced at $1,059.00, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is one of the most affordable drones on the market.

Weight and Size

Size does matter when you’re flying drones. Weighing in at under 249 grams with the standard battery, it’s one of the lightest, professional quality drones on the market. Drones that weigh less than 250 grams do not require a drone pilot license or registration according to the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). Bear in mind though that if you do plan on flying it with the extended battery, the drone weighs in at 303.5 grams which means it will need to be registered and you will need a drone pilot license to operate it.

Folded down it measures 2.4 by 3.5 by 5.7 inches which makes it easy to pop into a bag and take it with you on the go.

Battery Life

The DJI Mini 4 Pro offers an impressive battery life for its size with 34 minutes with the Smart Battery.

The ability to grab stunning aerial images is one the biggest attractions of flying a drone, especially when you are a new drone pilot. And boy, does the DJI Mini 4 Pro deliver on this score! It has the ability to shoot 4K 60FPS HDR video, 4K 100FPS slow motion video, and 48MP photos and has night mode too. The wide-angle camera allows for true vertical photography as well.

Intelligent Shooting:

The DJI Mini 4 Pro offers several shooting modes which make it easier for a beginner, and a pro, to get the images they need while maneuvering the drone. MasterShots, QuickShots, Hyperlapse, and Cruise Control. MasterShots keeps the subject at the center of the frame when executing different maneuvers in sequence to generate a short cinematic video. QuickShots records a short video according to the selected shooting mode allowing you to quickly edit and use as needed. Hyperlapse generates a timelapse video according to a selected flight path or while maneuvering.

The QuickTransfer feature allows you to transfer photos and videos to your smartphone without linking the remote controller for instant sharing.

Flight Safety

The DJI Mini 4 Pro has several features that make flying a breeze for novice drone pilots and increase safety. A feature previously only available on higher end models like the Mavic series, the DJI Mini 4 Pro now has sensors on the front and others aimed backward for omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, providing protection from all angles. Obstacle avoidance helps you prevent your drone from getting entangled in tree branches and the like, helping new pilots overcome one of their biggest reasons for nervousness while flying.

The Geospatial Environment Online (GEO) System gives real-time information and restriction updates so pilots can prevent the drone from entering restricted air spaces, giving you peace of mind while flying.

Auto landing and auto takeoff features are impressive with the drone landing close to its takeoff point at the tap of a button.

Overall, if you are looking for a small drone to hone your skills on or for something that is extremely portable, the DJI Mini 4 can’t be beat.
